Version 0.0.9 - Developer Notes



Wow, holidays have been weird. It feels like I have been working on my game like crazy but simultaneously got less done than I thought. The major hurdle this time around was making the decision between the two resource systems. I was extremely torn and had to do a lot of reaching out to get some other's input. Huge shout out to Mike, Vince, as well as the people on the FW devs and IGC discords who helped give me some much needed outside perspective. I have officially moved towards the 3 resource system to grant the players the flexibility to play the cards how they see fit. I expect some more balancing will need to follow in order to restore the difficulty to the level it was previously with the other system.
The most exciting addition in this release is getting my first round of actual art into my game! I worked with davinciwannabe (see her links on my main page) to create the designs for each enemy in sticker form :3 I think they turned out great and are a huge first step in removing the AI images from my game which have got to go. More art is on the way so stay tuned! 
The big functional change in this release is the removal/repurposing of the "defend" mechanic. This mechanic was always meant to be a way for you to regain some value from the cards you don't use each turn. I attempted to expand the mechanic to have more utility (draw cards, gain health, deal damage, etc) but doing so led to a big unwanted spike in complexity. In effort to maintain the utility but limit the complexity, I changed it so that Patches (previously Defend) are an effect which you can add at certain points in the game to help your deck run smoother, and a few select cards have patch effects by default. This should keep the complexity at bay without completely removing the idea. Please let me know what you think of how it works now!
